Junior High
In partnering with parents, our aim is to enhance and enrich the learning that children are already engaged in at home and in other aspects of their lives. We seek to provide opportunities for students to discover their God given purpose in an environment that teaches Christ centred values.
As students begin grade seven, they are introduced to a whole new routine. Junior high students are assigned lockers, rotate classrooms and take seven subjects per year from different teachers. Classes are scheduled in a six day rotation. Typical course offerings by grade would be English (both literature and grammar), Math, Science, French, Social Studies, Bible, and Physical Education. To promote life-long volunteerism, a community service component is part of the required curriculum. In addition to instruction time, students in grades seven through nine will usually have an average of two hours of supervised study hall per week. Junior high students write mid-term exams in January and final exams in June. (Students may be rewarded for high academic performance, diligence, and regular attendance by being exempt from finals. See School Handbook for details.) A passing grade in junior high is 60%.
To broaden their academic experience, each quarter students can choose from a variety of arts electives offered one afternoon per week by staff and/or volunteers. Options include cooking, sewing, drawing, public speaking, and heritage architecture study, among many others. Depending on interests, students have the option to participate in a variety of extra-curricular school activities such as intramural and/or team sports, praise and worship team, choir, drama, and, once they turn fourteen, the Duke of Edinburgh program.
