History

On August 11, 1977 Grace Baptist Church was incorporated; in the articles of incorporation was an allowance for both a kindergarten and Christian day school program. Grace Kindergarten began in the fall of 1978, and Grace Christian School began in September 1980 with thirty-two students from grades K-6.

The reasons for starting Grace Christian School stemmed from a strong dissatisfaction with what was taking place in the public school system here on PEI. Some of the listed concerns were the following: the humanistic philosophy, the disregard for discipline, peer pressure, alcohol and drug use among students, and a general lowering of moral standards. It was decided that Grace Christian School would be started to serve two basic purposes: first, to teach “the fear of the Lord” through Biblical principles, and second, to be a mighty tool for evangelism.

The school has grown through diligent prayer, sacrifice, and the efforts of many dedicated people. GCS graduated its first high school class in 1987. In 1990 GCS became a member school of the Association of Christian Schools International. (ACSI.)

In 1992, seven new classrooms were added to the facility to accommodate the increasing enrollment and to provide better facilities. In 2002, an expansion added four classrooms, a library, a science lab, and improved washroom facilities.

Since its founding, many children and their family members have been led to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the school. Today our graduates serve in many important roles of society, including several who have gone on to be spiritual leaders in their communities.
